by Jerome Rex

about

Happy Africa day fam! DJ Eazy and I teamed up to bring you this song as a celebration of the coming African Renaissance, and also the Cape Flats Renaissance.
Africa is an export product.

lyrics

Renaissance

Verse 1:
From Ethiopia to Egypt the world’s academic force
Admires structures that survived all the tests of yore
Sculptures of Aksum, the sphinxes, inventive works
The bronze figures of Benin and the Fez of course
The Zim ruins, universities that led the cause
Epic scores, far more so than we get credit for
Google it. Legends forged on these blessed shores
Let these thoughts keep you on your toes like with pedicures
Kingdoms get established
Monumental architecture Ceasar couldn’t manage
Advances in metallurgy deeper than your average
From a people supposedly so ignorant and savage
Darkest Africa? Don’t believe the Reddit scores
A continent synonymous with fear, evil, death and wars
It’s time to shakes that bad press and invest in yours
Actively as Africans to activate the Renaissance

Verse 2:
From Mitchells Plain to Sarepta the world’s brightest heads endorse
Great achievements all drawn from our reservoirs
Let us all think on what the globe is indebted for
Economic policy and sport respected forms
Wayde runs the track as his intended call
Chess grandmaster Kenny Solomon defends the pawns
Who can meet the art of Peter Clarke except of course
B-boy Brandon, the floor’s a canvas when he gets to dance
Dollar Brand and POC, yes they’ve been on tours
But of course men revere the band, yet reject the source
Only know the Cape Flats for gangs and excessive force
So the state won’t show us love like a tennis loss
The Cape of storms? Don’t believe the metaphors
We’ll blow the doors off those lies and attest as false
So come on, shake that bad press and invest in yours
Cape Town stand up, it’s time for the Renaissance
